SRI JAGANNATH PURI RATH YATRA 2018 ( Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra & Sister Goddess Subhadra ):
Jagannath Rath Yatra is an extravagant Hindu festival celebrated annually at Puri in Orissa in the month of June or July. This festival is dedicated to Lord Jagannath (Lord Krishna) and his sister Goddess Subhadra and his elder brother Lord Balabhadra. This festival is also named as Gundicha Yatra, Chariot Festival, Dasavatara and Navadina Yatra. “Sri Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra 2018”.
The main attraction of this auspicious festival is Lord Jagannath’s glimpse on the chariot. The devotees believe that every year Lord Jagannath makes a visit in Mathura his birthplace for few days. This yatra is conducted each year to welcome him and fulfill his desire. The yatra is carried from Jagannath temple to Gundicha temple. “Sri Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra 2018”.
RATH YATRA 2018
This year Jagannath rath yatra festival is falling on 14 July 2018. This sacred festival is celebrated on the second day of the Shukla Prakash, Ashadh month in accordance to the traditional Oriya calendar. Sri Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra 2018
The idols of the three deities, made of wood are taken from the Jagannath Temple to the Gundicha Temple every year placed in decorative chariots. This yatra is accompanied by chants and conches heard all around. Before the commencement of the yatra, the deity’s idols are given a bath with 109 buckets of water, known as Snana Purnima. These are then isolated till the day of the procession, Chhera Pahara performed by the royal successor of Orissa. “Sri Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra 2018”.
THE CHARIOTS IN RATH YATRA:
Elaborated chariots are the prime attraction of the Jagannath yatra. There are three main chariots prepared on this auspicious day. The decoration of the chariots starts on the day of Akshay Tritiya. Sri Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra 2018 These are pulled by hands during the yatra with long ropes of a length of 50 meters. The pulling of this rope adds to the good karma and doing away with bad karmas.
The Lord Jagannath’s chariots heights 45.6 feet and has 18 wheels. It is called as Nandighosa. The chariot of lord Balaram is made of height 45 feet with 16 wheels and called Taladhvaja. The chariot of Goddess Subhadra heights 44.6 feet and has 14 wheels called Devadalana. These chariots are beautifully decorated by the artists using different designs, motifs and paints. “Sri Jagannath Puri Rath Yatra 2018“.As the yatra starts, Lord Balaram’s chariot leads the procession followed by goddess Subhadra and lastly Lord’s Jagannath’s chariot. The two temples are located on the distance of 3 km which is covered during the festival by devotees chanting sacred words and beating drums. This yatra is covered in few hours and the devotees seek blessing for next 9 days visiting the temple.
LAST DAY OF SRI JAGANNATH PURI RATH YATRA 2018 PROCESSION: ( Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra & Sister Goddess Subhadra ):
The return procession the Bahuda yatra is held for some time at Mausi Maa temple. The deities are served sweet pancakes also called Poda Pitha. The pancakes are considered to be the food of poor and the Lord loves to eat it.
